The EcoChip is a novel platform for environmental monitoring. It is designed to culture microbes and monitor their growth in situ to overcome limitations of traditional lab-based culturing techniques. The EcoChip platform can easily compliment modern molecular and metabolomics analyses. The EcoChip is currently involved in many projects including understanding the impacts of anthropogenic disturbances in Arctic environments, as well as in agricultural systems to monitor the presence of antibiotic resistance genes and isolate potentially beneficial microbes.
